It’s always a strange feeling when the season finishes as you go from constant pressure to nothing! I have learnt over the years that this is a particularly hard time of year for me, but I have also learnt to not beat myself up about it… I am someone that strives with pressure so when it is taken away my motivation goes with it. I know now that I have to give myself some down time to relax and reflect before picking myself up to begin the training for the new season. Once this training begins, which it now has, I have to create goals and pressures for myself so I have a constant target.
Ed is now back in work, but has lost a lot of fitness, so he will take quite a while to get strong again and I have already qualified Greg for the Para Winter Champs as we managed to gain 2 plus 70 scores 🙂 I am also aiming to qualify Greg for the able bodied Regionals at medium and once we have cracked his slightly late change I will start taking him out at advanced medium and hopefully beyond.
As I am sure everyone would have guessed we didn’t get a call up for the World Equestrian Games, but it was very encouraging that the selectors were impressed enough to put us on the reserve list, especially being such a new combination. Fingers crossed we can impress them a little further next year and make it onto the final 5 for the Europeans.
The final National Champs of the year were a little disappointing for me as when I was warming Greg up he probably felt the best he has ever done, but when we entered the arena he got a little stage fright and just shut down on me a bit. We still finished second with 68%, but I wouldn’t be competing at the level I am if I was ever satisfied with second!!!
