I will start off with the good news… We took part in the KBIS Para Nationals last week and I managed to defend my title even though it may not have been in the greatest of styles! I stuck to the original plan and rode Ollie in the snaffle. He is now much better with waiting for the aids and he was a pleasure to ride in the warm up. Unfortunately something happened between the warm up and the competition arena. The only thing we can think of is that Gary gave him a mint just before we went in and it got stuck under the bit. He was really unhappy in the contact and kept throwing his head. The only time he has done this before is when he has managed to get his tongue over the bit. I knew this wasn’t a possibility in this bridle so I had no option but to carry on and hope he settled. Fortunately the bits in between the hiccups were really good, so the good bits counteracted the bad, and it was enough to secure us a win. We ended up with of a score of 68%. This really excites me for next year as imagine what the score would have been if we hadn’t fluffed those 5 or 6 moves…

KBIS National Championships 2012

We have 1 more competition this weekend before he can have his well deserved break. I will then pick him back up and concentrate on the able bodied competitions over the winter so we can gain more experience at the higher levels. You never know, we might even have a change by the end of the winter, but don’t hold your breath!

The other part of good news is that we have been granted full planning permission for the stables and arena. The work has already started so hopefully it won’t be long before we are settling Ollie into his new home!
